VUR What is Vesicoureteral Reflux? Urine flows from the kidneys , through thin tubes called ureters, to the bladder . If urine flows from the bladder back into the ureters this is called vesicoureteral reflux. With vesicoureteral reflux, urine flows back from the bladder to ureter then to the kidney. This may happen in one or both ureters. This condition occurs when the "flap valve" doesn’t work this lets urine flow back, due to this bacteria from the bladder can enter the kidney may cause a kidney infection that can lead to kidney damage . When urine flows back from ureters to kidneys this can cause is more severe damage to kidneys. The more severe reflux is the greater risk of kidney damage if there is an infection present. When chronic kidney disease reaches an advanced stage , dangerous levels of fluid, electrolytes and wastes can build up in your body. Kidney failure Kidney failure is the end stage of renal disease is the last stage of chronic kidney disease . Kidney failure is the stage where your kidneys stop working for survival you need dialysis or a kidney transplant. Kidney damage is caused due to other health problems that damage kidneys slowly over time. Diabetes and high blood pressure are common causes of ESRD (end-stage renal disease). Other problems that cause kidney failure are Genetic diseases such as polycystic kidney disease , Nephrotic syndrome and Urinary tract problems . In some cases, kidney stops working suddenly this is called acute kidney injury . Some of the common causes of acute kidney failure are infected, illegal drug usage and obstruction in the urinary tract .
